Grant & Mark are Married!

What a beautiful wedding!  Definitely a fun wedding which included, but definitely was not limited to:  bison munching on some hay, horses, a chicken, a little rain, a lot of snow, and a big bonfire! Thankfully, that bonfire was roaring by 9PM – the time the snowflakes were falling!  It was literally freezing outside.   The day began at The Cottage Salon, and  started out with a light drizzle – fortunately, by the time we rode through 45 minutes of Helen traffic, and 15 minutes up a dirt road to the beautiful cabin destination…it was more of a light-er drizzle. haha.  The cabin was gorgeous!! I’m talking huge front windows, a farm and mountain view…a side deck, fire pit…<ahhh> I could go on forever trying to describe every little detail.

So, I’ll just let the pictures tell the story…

The {infamous} Brenizer Method

I am referencing the famous & one of the greatest photographers I virtually know and follow:  Ryan Brenzier.  What does the Brenizer Method mean?  Well, it actual refers to a technique (a really cool one that he invented on his honeymoon)!  The final photo is made by using a telephoto lens to create a very shallow depth of field (as if shot with a wider angle lens). You get the shallow depth of field from the telephoto lens and the wider angle part from stitching together many photos (anywhere from 6 to 50)!  Essential you are creating a greater depth of field.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Set your camera to manual mode, set the aperture to its widest and choose a focus point & lock it!  (ex. if you’re doing this with a person as your subject, I recommend setting the focus on their eyes).  AND, since you will be stitching a lot of photos together, it’s probably best to set the quality to jpeg, especially
  2. Set the custom white balance – you don’t want every picture to vary slightly in color.
  3. Frame the image -think in your head how far up and down you plan on making the image.  Take note of where each corner is.  Also, make sure the image quality is set to jpeg.  You are going to end up with an image of high resolution anyway – this makes it easier to edit when in jpeg.
  4. Start the shooting! Remember the frame you took note of? Well, make sure to get a ton of pictures within your frame (even overlapping some)
  5. Stitch it with your photo processing software.  For Photoshop users, you can go to the File Menu -> Automate->Photomerge, and voila! Photoshop will magically stitch all the photos that you just took into one magnificent image!
  6. Finish it!  After you have your complete image, crop and edit to your liking!

I tried my hand at the Brenizer Method…it’s my first time, and I have a few funky frames, but here it is!  Look at all that magnificent bokeh & how wide the photo is.  You wouldn’t believe that this was taken with an 85mm f/1.4, but IT IS!  This image is composed of about 30 photos!  That Ryan Brenizer sure knows what he is doing!

Juan Carlos - Holy Crap that is AMAZING!

POWER THROUGH PICTURES

power through pictures

Yes, POWER THROUGH PICTURES presented to you by Brita Photography.  What is POWER THROUGH PICTURES? Well, it’s a wonderful idea that I’ve created!  As most of you know, I have been brainstroming like a crazy person trying to come up with ideas to give back.  It finally went off like a light bulb, a few days ago:   I want to provide photos to people who need it, who wouldn’t even think of getting portraits because the money just isn’t there – families in shelters, single mothers or fathers and their children…etc.  Instead of just raising money and donating it, I thought why not directly help people?  No middle man.  Just me, the camera and happy people with their happy photos.

Won’t you lose money doing this? Yes!  I will, but it’s personally rewarding to give somebody, a family a photo to keep forever, than to keep the extra dollars spent printing it off for them.  I plan to start this up in the winter, just when people need a little pick-me-up amidst the cold winter (if you can call it that in Atlanta).  Long term goals:  To work this in to a non-profit organization where all donations will be used to provide prints, to dedicate a full day monthly to different shelters, hospitals…anywhere in need, to empower people and give them hope.  The purpose: To lift spirits & provide those who don’t have the opportunity to have portraits with their own!  To find hope & power in a picture, when you can’t find it in yourself at times.  The purpose is to have it forever, a still memory that you will always remember.

Instead of donating the money somewhere, I can actually work with people one-on-one, and see their faces as I deliver their prints, something that they will have to remember and look back on.  Power Through Pictures!

Nick Kelland - I love it.

Brittany - Thank you! :)

Oscar - This is a great idea, I’ve been wanting to do something like this for some time. I subscribed to the Help Portrait discussions but I’m not quite sure it’s what I want, I think it got too big, which is good, but it seems it’s become a bit too complicated. Anyhow, if you ever want to put a small group of people together for this just send me an email , I’m in!

Brittany - I have too – the idea is still in progress! I just need to decide on a date and we’re set to go. It’s a simple idea with HUGE rewards for others. I will definitely let you know – I’d love to have more people help! I was contemplating about Help Portrait, too but feel the same way you do about it. Thanks for visiting!
